Convergence is an exhibition that brings together the talented artists that make up the photography collective Bjorka. For this exhibition each member is showing one work only. The selection has been carefully combined for Oslo Negative, to reflect both the title of this exhibition, but also the overarching theme of Closer. While entirely distinct in their vision, all the artists show an intensely close relationship to their subjects, resulting in a moving, sometimes celebratory and sometimes unsettling view of their subjects.
Closeness can be felt physically, emotionally, or both, and all these manifestations are evident in these works. By converging, the works take on a new life beyond the single image, creating a narrative flow that weaves through the themes, showing how looking at our world more closely, and from different points of view, can be revelatory.
The exhibition is curated by Greg Hobson.
Greg Hobson is a UK photography curator that has worked on exhibitions that have shown in the UK and internationally, as well as publications, museum collections and archives. His primary interests are in the human condition and identity, realised through exhibitions such as The Dead, In a Lonely Place, and Animalism. He is also interested in the relationships between the history of photography and contemporary practice, realised through exhibitions including Revelations: Experiments in Photography, that investigated how early attempts to capture photographic evidence of scientific phenomena came to inspire contemporary photographic artists; and Only in England, that explored the influence of Tony Ray Jones on the work of renowned photographer Martin Parr. He continues to work as an independent curator and arts advisor, alongside running photo workshops in Norway and the UK.
