Boken "Collapsed Mythologies: A Geofinancial Atlas" av Bjørkamedlem Eline Benjaminsen & Dayna Casey lanseres At Page Not Found, The Hague, Nederland torsdag 27. november kl. 19:00

The realm of finance has its own eco-logics. Hectocorns offer behemoths poison pills, whales take fledglings to the moon, disappear into dark pools, and form fraudulent daisy chains with one another. This book examines slang terms used by traders and other financial professionals, transporting us to a landscape both real and supernatural. Between what these terms mean and the ecological world they refer to, Benjaminsen and Casey detect a rich mythological history. Unpacking this seductive language reveals the absurd (super)natural ‘fictions’ that materially and violently shape our worldly ecology.

Dead cats bounce on the global market, lame ducks lack liquidity while roaming scorched earths, and rainmakers blood-let with their diamond hands. As our current market system posits itself as “natural” and inevitable, this is put to the test. Although it implies a functioning universe with its own flora, elements, laws of physics, landscapes, and interactions, we do not see a healthy ecosystem. Spells and enchantments are cast, mostly with malice. Confronted by disjointed flaws, fabulations, and deceptions, we are reminded that there are other scripts and other economies. Liquidities are concentrated, assets are frozen and funds are slushed. These waters flow offshore, nearshore, and midshore. They never trickle down. The book includes textual contributions by Amy Bride, Sami Hammana, Marie Storli and Alexis Wright.
